    SSC CGL 2023 Exam: Important Dates

    The Online Exam for SSC CGL 2023 Tier I exam will be conducted from August 13 to 24, 2023. Earlier, it was scheduled to be held from May 29 to June 7, 2023 which had been postponed due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India. The new exam dates for SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination – 2023 has been announced by the Commission on July 2, 2023 along with SSC exam calendar.

    SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2023

    Staff Selection Commission of India will be conducting SSC CGL 2023 Exam in four stages: Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 & Tier-4 exam. While Tier-I & Tier-II exam will be conducted online, Tier-III will be a pen and paper based exam and Tier-IV will be a computer skill test.     Candidates must note that the score for SSC CGL Tier-I & Tier-II Exam will be normalised if it is conducted in multiple shifts. The normalisation score will be decided by SSC and it will be considered final for selecting candidates for the further rounds (Tier-III & Tier-IV) of SSC CGL 2023 Exam.

    SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam Pattern

    SSC CGL 2023 Tier-1 exam will be conducted online comprising of 4 sections with about a 100 questions in total and with maximum marks of 200. The entire exam is needed to be completed in a time span of 60 minutes.

    Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off. No point will be deducted if the question is left blank or unattempted by a candidate.

    SSC CGL Tier-2 Exam Pattern

    SSC CGL Tier-2 exam will be conducted online comprising of 4 papers with about a 100 questions in Quantitative Ability, Statistics, General Studies (Finance and Economics) & 200 questions in English Language and Comprehension Papers and with maximum marks of 200 for reach papers.

    Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.

    SSC CGL Tier-3 Exam Pattern

    Tier-3 of SSC CGL will be a descriptive test. The paper will be in English/Hindi and will constitute of 100 marks. The entire paper needs to be completed in 60 minutes.

    SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam Pattern

    SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam is a Computer Skill Test. It will be conducted in two steps: DEST Test & CPT Test.

    DEST: Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English. This test is conducted to check a candidate's writing skills.

    CPT: This test is conducted to check a candidate's proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides.

    Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

    Quantitative Aptitude questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate.     General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus

    General Intelligence and Reasoning includes questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

    General Awareness Syllabus

    Questions in this section will be aimed at testing the candidates' general awareness (GK+GS) of the environment around him and its application to society. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.     The Mains Exam will be conducted online and is an objective multiple choice exam. This year, the Tier-II & Tier-III exam will be conducted on same day.     Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidate's understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on spot the error, fill in 21 the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.

    SSC CGL Tier-III Syllabus

    Tier-III of SSC CGL 2023 exam is a descriptive exam to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The mode of examination is offline (Pen and Paper mode) and students are required to write essays, précis, application, letter etc. in this exam. The exam carries 100 marks and the time allotted for the same is 60 minutes. The time allotted for candidates belonging to PWD category is increased to 80 minutes. Tier-III paper is given by specific candidates who are interested only for the post of “Statistical Investigator Grade II” & “Compiler”.

    SSC CGL Tier-IV Syllabus (Skill Test)

    Tier-IV examination comprises of couple of skill sets required for certain Government Posts all over the country.

    DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): For the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax),DEST Exam through SSC CGL 2023 exam is conducted to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.

    CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides are the three modules that are important for this exam and the commission demands a candidate to be proficient in it for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner).

    Number Of Attempts

    Despite the fact that there is no set amount of attempts. It is determined by the candidate's age group. For example, if a candidate is applying for the position of inspector at central excise and has been presenting from the age of 21, he can keep appearing until the age of 30. As a result, the number of tries will be limited to nine.

    SSC CGL Preparation Tips for 2020-21 Tier 4 Exam

    SSC CGL Tier 4 exam is held after the declaration of the Tier 3 result of the Combined Graduate Level Exam (CGL). Candidates who successfully qualify the Tier 3 exam are eligible for the Tier 4 exam. Hence the aspirants should get the basic SSC CGL Cutoff score to appear for the tier 4 exam.

    It comprises two types of tests i.e Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) and Data Entry Speed Test (DEST). The objective is to test your ability to do basic tasks such as type correctly at a reasonable speed and your knowledge of fundamental office software tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

    Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

    CPT includes the following three modules:

    1. Word Processing:You will be given an English passage; 2000 key depressions have to be made in 15 minutes. This is not difficult if you practice typing daily.

    2. Spread Sheet: In this module, the students will be asked to perform basic mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on the Microsoft Excel sheet. For this, they should be well-versed with the basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

    3. Generation of slides: The students will be asked to create slides on Microsoft Powerpoint. To do well, it is necessary to have an understanding of header, footer, inserting date and time, and foundational skills of Microsoft Powerpoint.

    Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)

    DEST consists of only a typing test wherein the students have to make 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes. It is a speed test that can be cleared without a hitch with regular practice.
